Applications of the ATP assay
Unsatisfactorily cleaned/ sterilised surfaces will be an excellent growth medium for e.g. airborne microorganisms

Features
- Conventional culturing provides CFU only after 2-5 days and will not detect non-culturable microorganisms or remains of other types of biological contamination
- Very sensitive assay (detection of 10-17 moles of ATP or about 5 bacterial cells)
- Simple & quick assay procedure (<1 min) promotes routine use/monitoring
- By including an internal ATP standard in the assay ATP levels can be expressed in moles rather than RLUs
- By addition of ATP extractant directly on the surface released ATP even from biofilms can be collected by swabbing
