The article, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, analyzed data from six studies on glucosamine and nine on chondroitin published between 1966 and 1999. Overall, the research showed moderate to significant benefits on pain and mobility compared to placebo, in patients with arthritis in the hip or knee. There were no serious side effects. However, scientists did find methodological flaws in some of the studies. The meta-analysis was funded by the National Institutes of Health.
