1) 3D dimensional structure determination will focus on 20 proteins and complexes, which are involved in processes such as (ⅰ)single transduction (ⅱ)blood clotting and (ⅲ)infection (I.e. Viruses). The techniques to be used in this study will be EM, NMR and X-ray crystallography. Our aim is to understand their biological function based on the 3D structural information obtained and use these results for rational drug design.
2) Firstly, theoretical studies will be undertaken based on structural bioinformatics allowing us to predict the secondary structure, folding type and 3D structure of novel proteins. Secondly, we will perform experiments to establish structural characteristics of proteins at intermediate stages of the unfolding.
“Studies on protein function, 3D structure and folding” are a long-term effort. We expect to solve 3-5 high-resolution structures every year and to publish papers with a sum citation factor (SCI) higher than 400, including papers in international top ranking scientific journals such as Science and Nature.
