Beginning October 26, the FDA began allowing manufacturers to use a health claim on food products that contain soy protein, linking them with a reduced risk of heart disease. The claim will be allowed on food packages and labeling of products that contain at least 6.25 grams of soy protein per serving. The soy health claim petition was submitted approximately 1 1/2 years ago by Protein Technologies International, a subsidiary of DuPont.
