pneumothorax

<chest medicine> A collapse of the lung due to an abrupt change in the intrapleural pressure within the chest cavity. This may be due to lung or chest penetration (trauma). May also occur spontaneously (lung rupture).

Symptoms include shortness of breath and severe, one-sided (affected side) chest pain on inhalation.
