    本期Nature发表了一组关于遗传实验室中常用动物果蝇的重要论文。

    中心的一篇是由“果蝇12基因组联合体”发表的关于10种果蝇基因组序列的论文。该文将10种新测序的基因组与2个以前已知的序列（分别对应D.melanogaster和D.pseudoobscura）进行了对比。由此获得的遗传变异数据库对关于推动物种形成的演化力的研究非常有价值。

    第二篇重要的合作论文对这12个果蝇基因组序列进行了分析，以寻找在演化过程中保留下来的元素，并且报告了很多特定序列主题在保留与功能之间的关系。研究人员发现了一个细致的监管网络，其作用是识别对蛋白进行编码的基因和外显子、RNA基因、微RNA和它们的作用目标。一篇“News  and  Views”文章对这些基因组论文作了讨论。
