Scytalidium acidophilum Sigler & Carmichael, Can. J. Microbial 20: 267, 1974. Fig. 2
Colonies compact, dark greyish brown, dark grey in reverse, reaching a diameter of 25mm in 3 weeks on PDA at 25℃, the colonies grow faster at pH 4.5 achieving a diameter of 28-31mm in 3 weeks on PDA at 25℃. Hyphae septate, pale to moderately brown, often fragment to form arthroconidia. Arthroconidia moderately brown to brown, smooth, mostly ellipsoidal, cylindrical or irregular, 0-1-septate, constricted at septum, 7-23 × 4.5-8μm.

Scytalidium circinatum Singler & C. J. K. Wang, Mycologia 82 (3): 399, 1990. Fig. 3
Colonies felty or lanose, pale to dark grey or dark brown, reaching a diameter of 68-80mm on PDA at 25℃ in 3 weeks. Hyphae septate, hyaline to subhyaline, usually curved, 2-4μm wide. Conidiophores lacking. Conidiogenous cells in the form of smooth, hyaline fertile hyphae, thick-walled up to 1μm thick. Arthroconidia hyaline, square or short-cylindrical, 2-4 × 1.5-2.5μm; Cylindrical when formed from straight hyphae, 3-9 × 1.5-2.5μm.
