生物谷报道：认知神经科学兴起于20世纪90年代， 是认知科学和神经科学相结合的新生儿。认知神经科学的研究任务在于阐明认知活动的脑机制。
近一二十年来，认知神经科学的研究不仅使人类得以更加深入地探讨自身认知的奥秘，也为探索意识的起源提供了前提。与此同时，作为心理学科中最为成熟的学科分支之一的发展心理学，经历了近25年的发展过程后，对人类认知的发展有了较深入的了解，其研究已从描述性转向解释及应用，但有关发展的神经基础或脑机制问题都一直处于被“冷落”的研究领域。认知神经科学研究的不断深入促进了发展心理学与发育神经科学(developmental neuroscience)的交叉。这种交叉使得发展心理学与神经科学家能够在一些共同感兴趣的问题上进行深入的探讨。
生物谷专家认为，脑功能的研究从过去的大体研究，逐渐走到细胞分子水平，但是脑功能的真正的本质揭示，还需要从细胞分子基因水平逐步回归到整体水平，只有整体水平的脑功能才是真正的脑功能的本质。而认知神经科学可以充当这一桥梁。不过生物谷专家也认为，认知科学要得到长足发展还依赖于其它学科以及技术上的重大突破，如计算机神经科学的突破，新的动物模型，以及新的研究方法的突破，才能得到更快速的发展。相信在未来十年内，认知神经科学将重新回归热点。
